    Description

"THUNDER GODS--THE KAMIKAZE PILOTS TELL THEIR STORY"" is a 22 year-old long out-of-print reference exclusively devoted to the Japanese Kamikaze pilot accounts during WWII. By the second half of 1944, Japanese hopes of maintaining an empire in the Pacific were fading fast under the repeated hammer blows by the U.S. Starved of needed raw materials and short of equipment and trained manpower, the Japanese war machine was in decline. To stave off defeat, a small group of officers promoted the idea of suicide attacks on U.S. ships. Organized, large-scale Kamikaze attacks began during the Philippines campaign and continued until the end of WWII. Young Japanese volunteers with minimal flight training, sacrificed themselves by the hundreds! Prestige targets--battleships and carriers--were hit, but most of the damage was done to destroyers on picket duty. Here are the accounts of those few who survived and they are MESMERIZING!!
Book is HARDBACK with DUSTJACKET published in 1989. It is a FIRST EDITION, is in NEAR MINT CONDITION, measures 6" x 8 1/2", and contains 215 pages with 16 pages of rare photographs.
