Fruit acids, commonly referred to as alpha-hydroxy acids, are often referred to as the commonly accepted abbreviation AHA, derived from name Alpha-Hydroxy Acid. The most popular and most frequently used fruit acids in cosmetics include: glycolic, tartaric, lactic, malic and citric acids. Many skin problems are related to the build-up of dead skin layers that make the skin thick and dull. The process of reducing them is therefore important both in all situations leading to excessive keratinization of the epidermis, as well as in the case of tired, stressed skin, in which the aging processes have already begun.
The effects of using AHA GESUNDLAND acids
perfectly moisturized skin,
visible improvement in skin tension and structure,
the skin after the treatment becomes smooth, luminous, regains its nice color,
the elastic fibers are rebuilt and the skin's elasticity improves,
the structure of collagen is strengthened and its synthesis is accelerated, and discolorations are lightened.
Acid exfoliation prevents the pigment from clumping into lumps.
reduction of enlarged skin pores,
protection against blackheads.
Acid exfoliation cleans and protects against re-clogging of the hair follicles
regulation of the work of the sebaceous glands,
smoothing out wrinkles.
The recommended dosage of AHA GESUNDLAND acids depends on the desired cosmetic effect. AHA acids can act in two ways, depending on the concentration:
• 2 - 5% concentration of acids in the recipe: improved hydration of the stratum corneum as a result of the binding of water molecules through the hydrogen bridges formed between the H2O molecules and the hydroxyl groups of AHA acids.
The mechanism of action of AHA GESUNDLAND acids at a concentration of 2 - 5% is based on the loosening of the bonds of corneocytes (dead cells that make up the stratum corneum), which leads to exfoliation of the outer stratum corneum. In a healthy epidermis, we lose one to two layers of corneocytes every day out of the 15 in the stratum corneum. AHA GESUNDLAND acids cause accelerated exfoliation in a mechanism similar to the physiology of the epidermis. It also stimulates fibroblasts within the skin, which results in an increase in the amount of properly built collagen. The incorporation of acid into the lipid structures of the epidermal barrier causes water to retain in the stratum corneum, thereby increasing its hydration level.
• 5 - 10% concentration of acids in the recipe: stimulating cellular regeneration, improving epidermal exfoliation and smoothing the skin as a result of AHA acids reducing cohesion between corneocytes.
Higher concentrations (over 10%), which can be highly irritating, are found in professional peels used only in beauty and dermatological salons to treat lesions (e.g. ichthyosis, chloasma) and cosmetic defects (e.g. deep acne scars).
